Woodland Park is a 4 acre wood in Bursledon, near
Southampton, bounded to the east by properties in
Hungerford and Kew Lane, and to the west by the stream
leading to Badnam Creek and the Hamble River. Trees are mainly alder in the wetter
section near the stream, elsewhere a mixture of ash,
birch, oak and willow. There is a splendid giant
redwood, over 100 years old, on higher ground in the
north east of the wood. Public access has been provided
to the central glade via footbridges and informal pathways.
The group holds periodic volunteer work parties, details on the coming events page. Woodland Park is owned and managed
by the Woodland Park Community Group, a local charity, Reg No
1089740.
Woodland Park is within the Old Bursledon Conservation Area. It
is
also part of a Site of
Importance for Nature Conservation (SINC) including Pilands Wood
recreation ground and Mallards Moor, to the junction of Badnam Creek
& Hamble River.
